Economic Impact

This would entail the wealth that IDEI’s work has generated amongst the smallholder farmers. IDEI has been able to promote its repertoire of technologies amongst 1.2 Million smallholder households (over 6 Million people) India-wide.

With the use of IDEI promoted technologies the user farmers are most definitely able to generate USD 500 annually as net additional income
(See report) . This means that over and above their earnings made during the monsoon, the user farmers are able to generate this additional income. Therefore, they have more disposable income in hand which is put to multiple uses such as ploughing back into agriculture, renovating their houses, educating their children, purchasing livestock, accessing medical facilities among other things.

In addition to generating monies for the user farmers, promotion of technologies also help the members of the supply chain, namely the manufacturers, dealers and the village based mechanics. From manufacturing to selling to installation of technologies employment is generated at each level of supply chain and with it income. Till date over 560 Million person days of employment has been generated on the farm (agricultural labourers) and over 1.6 Million person days of employment has been generated in the supply chain. When monetised these values amount to USD 700 Million and 3.2 Million respectively!
